Nevada historian and author Janice Oberding brings the Silver State’s mysterious past to life with tales of ghosts, legends, strange happenings, colorful characters, and places where history may not be quite finished yet.
Known for her entertaining storytelling and deep knowledge of Nevada history, Janice will take us on a spirited journey through some of the fascinating—and occasionally unsettling—stories that have become part of Nevada lore.
Come for the history. Stay for the ghosts. And don't be surprised if you find yourself looking over your shoulder on the way home!

Nevada Nightmares: Dark Tales from the Silver State with Stephen & Sharon Provost
Join the Carson City Historical Society for “Nevada Nightmares” with authors Stephen H. Provost and Sharon M. Provost on Friday, October 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the CCHS Carriage House, 1207 N. Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada 89701.

Remarkable Tales from the Nevada Appeal’s Past Pages with Sue Ballew & Trent Dolan
Join the Carson City Historical Society on Saturday, November 7, from 1–3 p.m. for an afternoon of fascinating stories drawn from the pages of the Nevada Appeal.
Sue Ballew and Trent Dolan are the daughter and son of longtime Nevada Appeal columnist Bill Dolan, who wrote the newspaper’s beloved “Past Pages” column for decades. Continuing their father’s tradition, Sue and Trent dig into historic newspaper accounts to uncover humorous, unusual, and sometimes surprising stories from Carson City and Nevada’s past.
Come enjoy an afternoon of local history brought to life through the newspaper pages that recorded it.
The program will be held in the Nevada Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Carson City. CCHS members attend free; admission for non-members is $10.
Step into the elegance and magic of a Victorian Christmas! The Carson City Historical Society invites you to our Victorian Christmas Tea on Saturday, December 12, 2026, from 1–3 PM at the Carriage House of the historic Foreman-Roberts House Museum, 1207 N. Carson Street in Carson City. Queen Victoria will once again be making the trip across the pond for the occasion! Enjoy an enchanting afternoon of fresh scones, delicate finger sandwiches, sweet delights, tea, and special entertainment, all surrounded by the warmth and beauty of a traditional Victorian Christmas. Guests will also have the opportunity to visit the Foreman-Roberts House, beautifully decorated and open in all its Christmas glory. Tickets are $50 per person and available at cchistorical.org.
